This Year’s Billboard Music Awards Announced The Winners Hours Before The Awards Ceremony Began. BTS Made History By Taking Home Three Trophies.
BTS ( Bangtan Boys ) made history at this year’s Billboard Music Awards after taking home three awards, even before the main event began.
On the evening of May 15 local time, the Billboard Music Awards announced the winners hours before the awards ceremony. BTS took home three trophies for Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Selling Song with “Butter.”
BTS has been nominated in six different categories at this year’s awards show including Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard Global Artist (excluding the United States), Top Selling Song (nominated twice with “Butter” and “Permission To Dance”. “), Top Billboard Global Song (excluding US), and Top Rock Song.
This year’s award marks BTS’ third win for Top Duo/Group, meaning the group tied the record held by One Direction for most wins in the same category. It also marked the group’s sixth consecutive win at the BBMAs since 2017.
BTS previously announced that they would not be attending this year’s awards due to their busy schedules. However they will make an acceptance video if they win.
Last year, BTS was unable to perform live at the awards show due to COVID-19 safety guidelines. Instead, the members put on a stunning virtual performance of their hit song, “Butter.”
Meanwhile, Big Hit Music has announced that BTS will be making a comeback with an anthology album titled “Proof” which will be released on June 10. In addition to their collection of hits since their debut, this album also contains three new songs.
In related news, BTS recently wrapped up their world concert tour “PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE” with four days of concerts in Las Vegas. BTS earned USD 35,944,850 or around IDR 520 billion through the concert.
