The striker admitted 232 offenses between 2017 and 2021
The English Federation (FA) announced this Wednesday the penalty of eight months of suspension of any activity related to the soccer to the Brentford international striker ivan toney by breach the betting regulations.
Toney (27 years old) was indicted in november by the FA by 262 infractions to the regulation which prohibits professional footballers from participating in bets sports activities over a four-year period, from February 2017 to January 2021.
The FA acquitted him of 30 of those alleged breachesbut the footballer admitted the 232 remaining.
The striker, once international with the english team (without actually participating in the World Cup in Qatar), is suspended “with immediate effect“, in addition to receiving a £50,000 fine (almost 58,000 euros or 62,500 dollars).
“Of course I am upset of not being able to play for the next eight months”, Toney reacted in a message on his Instagram account, implying that accept the decision.
“The written motivations of the judgment of the commission have not been published yetso I will not more comments right now (…) I focus on myself lap to practice the sport that I love next season”, added the footballer.
His club released a release to explain that he expects legal reasoning for “decide next steps” to follow.
The FA specified that allowing the footballer to return to club training when they remain to fulfill four months of his punishment, that is, from September 17, 2023.
