Charles Leclerc is planted during a Monaco charity football match

Charles Leclerc’s struggles at the Monaco Grand Prix are well documented. Despite having a number of great opportunities during his career in Formula 1, the Ferrari driver has yet to taste victory in his home race.

While Leclerc hopes to turn his luck at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, could it be that his personal “Curse of Monaco” has carried over from the track, onto the football field?

Leclerc was one of many athletes and personalities taking part in the 30th annual World Stars Football Game, held in Monaco ahead of the annual Grand Prix. The charity game, which raises money for underprivileged children, pits F1 personalities against athletes and other celebrities. This year Leclerc captained the F1 team, which also included Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly and F1 president Stefano Domenicali. Their opponents, Team Stars for Kids, sport tennis star Novak Djokovic among the players.

The Ferrari driver first missed the mark when he attempted a tackle, leaving him face down on the field:

Then, with his side a goal down, Leclerc produced a fine effort to equalize. However, this happened:

Of course, this is all in good fun, with some of the world’s best athletes getting together to raise money for charity. And there’s no denying that Leclerc is one of the best in the world at what he does.

Still, with this on the eve of a Grand Prix where his luck always seems to be running out, that seems a bit ominous.

Except that Leclerc put all his Monaco misery out on the pitch before taking to the track this weekend.
