(Seoul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Eui-jin = The two friendly matches between Min-jae Kim’s team Napoli (Italy) and Lee Kang-in’s team Mallorca (Spain) both failed to obtain approval from the Korea Football Association and were ultimately cancelled.
An official from the Korea Football Association said on the 25th, “We finally notified the organizers of the two teams’ visit to Korea that they would not allow the match to be held. The conditions we suggested were not met.”
Promoter Untouchable Sports Group, Stadium X, has prepared two friendly matches between the two teams on the 8th and 10th of next month at Seoul World Cup Stadium and Goyang Sports Complex.
However, the second game (June 10) was first canceled on the 19th due to objections from the Korea Professional Football Federation, as six K-League games were scheduled on the same day.
On the 19th, the Korea Football Association asked the two companies to confirm whether they were willing to hold only the first match, and put a ‘condition’ on them to prove whether they had the financial capacity to plan a big event such as a foreign team’s visit to Korea.
The Association gave us two options.
It was asked to leave a deposit worth billions of won or to submit a special contract related to the method of financial compensation in preparation for unexpected events such as the team’s ‘no show’ along with 800 million won, which is about 10% of the expected profit from the first game.
An official from the association said, “I was told to submit the relevant documents by 11:00 am on the 25th, but (the other party) couldn’t completely submit them. I extended the deadline to the afternoon by giving a little more, but I couldn’t meet the conditions.” I couldn’t help but consider the possibility of a problem between the club and the organizer. There were too many variables, so I set conditions.”
