Ponniyin Selvan is touted to be a potential gamechanger for the Tamil film industry. The two-part franchise has been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore. The cast is headlined by Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others. This will be the I actor's second major release after Cobra, slated to open in theatres on August 30. It is Vikram and Rai Bachchan's first film with Mani Ratnam after Raavanan (2010).

The epic drama was simultaneously shot in Hindi as Raavan with Abhishek Bachchan reprising the Kollywood star's role from the Tamil version. While Raavanan received positive reviews, the Hindi version didn't do as well as expected. Ponniyin Selvan is slated to hit the screens on September 30,
