Meenakshi Shirodkar’s debut film
Meenakshi Shirodkar was born in Mumbai and trained as a classical singer. Her early career included roles in radio dramas. In 1935, she married Dr. Shirodkar and continued working in the theatre. During the 1950s, she appeared in more than a dozen Sangeet Nataks (marathi theatrical productions). Some of her most memorable performances include Mruchhakatik (1935), “Maanaapmaan” (1950), and “Ekach Pyaala” (1968). Shirodkar’s grandfather, Ratan Pednekar, was a renowned Marathi actress and her grandmother, Namrata, was a noted Marathi playwright.
The film was directed by Master Vinayak, a legendary actor and director. His real name was Vinayak Karnataki. Shirodkar, who acted in Marathi films from the 1930s to the 1970s, was one of the first women to wear a swimsuit on the screen. The film was popular because of Meenakshi Shirodkar’s seductive song sequence in a bathing suit.

Director Pravin Tarde has announced the release date of Dharmaveer, a biopic on the late Shiv Sena leader. The movie is named after Dighe’s nickname, “Dharmaveer.” The film is currently filming in Thane, Maharashtra. Though the movie’s release date has not been announced, the lead actor is expected to play the role of Dighe.
The film will be based on Dighe’s life, as he was a major part of the Shiv Sena’s organisation and played an important role in widening the party’s base. The actor, who was born in Thane, also had his own construction company and a hotel business. He was nicknamed “The Bal Thakre of Thane”, and inspired many to join the party. After Balasaheb, he was arguably the biggest political player in Thane and was even more influential.
