The world has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the many industries that have been affected is Hollywood. Film studios have had to make tough decisions to delay the release dates of their movies to align with COVID-19 safety protocols. Here is a list of some of the notable movies that have been postponed:
No Time to Die
This James Bond movie was one of the first major casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally set for release in April 2020, it was pushed back to November of the same year. However, as the pandemic continued to spread, the November date was also cancelled. The latest release date for No Time to Die is now October 8, 2021.
A Quiet Place: Part II
The sequel to the 2018 hit, A Quiet Place, was set to release in March 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. It was slated for release in September 2020 but was once again delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. It is now set to release on May 28, 2021.
Black Widow
Black Widow, the newest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was scheduled to release on May 1, 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was rescheduled to November 6, 2020. With the pandemic still ongoing, Disney decided to delay the movie once again. The new release date is now July 9, 2021.
Top Gun: Maverick
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the sequel to the 1986 hit, Top Gun. However, they will have to wait a little longer. Originally set for release in June 2020, it was delayed first to December 2020 and later to July 2, 2021.
In The Heights
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights movie adaptation was set to release in June 2020 after a successful run on Broadway. However, the pandemic forced the film’s delay to June 18, 2021.
The pandemic’s effect on the entertainment industry has been widespread, with many film studios facing unprecedented financial losses. But as the world adapts to the new normal and vaccinations roll out, we can hope to once again enjoy the full movie-going experience soon. Until then, we will keep our fingers crossed and stay safe.
