Robert Eggers wrapped manufacturing on “The Northman” in advance this week. The epic Viking drama is Eggers’ 0.33 directorial function following acclaimed indie hits “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse.” A co-production among New Regency and Focus Features, “The Northman” stars Alexander Skarsgård in a Viking revenge saga set in Iceland on the turn of the tenth century. Eggers’ ensemble solid includes reunions along with his “Lighthouse” celebrity Willem Dafoe and “The Witch” breakout” Anya Taylor-Joy, plus Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, and Björk. Eggers co-wrote the script with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón.
Production on “The Northman” started out in late summer in Ireland. The Belfast Telegraph stated in August that film crews had been noticed at the Antrim Hills near the seaport and market metropolis of Larne (test out some of the film’s built units right here). The coronavirus pandemic not on time the group from their authentic begin date in March. Eggers became just days far from the start of filming while he became forced to quarantine in Belfast, Ireland following the production shutdown.
During an interview with Film Independent in April, Eggers touted “The Northman” as his most ambitious manufacturing up to now. Kidman discovered in October she would be filming her supporting role in “The Northman” for a pair weeks in November ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. “I’m quite terrified right now,” Kidman instructed Collider about heading to “The Northman” set, including, “I sound calm but you shouldn’t see what’s going on internal.”
Eggers’ cast has remained tight lipped on what fanatics can expect to see in “The Northman,” but Taylor-Joy did say last month that her creator-director has give you something moviegoers have in no way visible before.
“Robert and I actually have now been pals longer than we have been co-workers,” Taylor-Joy said. “Getting the possibility to create artwork collectively once more is amazing. We have each grown so much apart and now we get to develop again together. I am so proud to be a part of this task. Every second on set I am proud. I think we can be offering to the sector something it definitely hasn’t visible before. I just experience so humbled I get to be a part of it.”
Focus Features will release “The Northman” regionally with Universal Pictures dispensing internationally.
