Avatar 2 / Avatar : The Way Of Water Review: James Cameron has always been one step ahead of other directors in the use of modern technology in Hollywood. The movie Avatar, released in 2009, was a testament to Cameron’s amazing creation. The motion capture technology used by James Cameron for the first time in this movie revolutionized the world of cinema. Based on an underwater story, Avatar 2 released this Friday in English, Telugu, Tamil and all Indian languages.
Story: Jake Sully aka Toruk Makto (Sam Worthington) is the leader of the Omatikaya tribe. He is happy with his wife Netri (Zoe Saldana) and his children. Jake Sully and Netiri have two sons named Neteum (Jamie Flatters) and Loak (Britain Dalton) and a daughter named Tuck (Trinity Bliss). There is also an adopted daughter named Kiri (Sigourney Weaver). Along with these children, there is a human boy named Spider (Jack Champion). Everyone is happy together. During this time, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) comes back as a special Avatar to take revenge on Jake Sully and his people. Quaritch and his men come looking for Jake Sully and Netiri for the revenge. On the otherside, Jack and Netri migrate to Reef Island with their children. Did their attempt to hide from Quaritch pay off? How did Quaritch discover their whereabouts? Did Jack save his wife and children in this fight? To get these answers, one should watch Avatar 2 on the silver screen.
Minus Points: Giving importance to family emotions rather than graphics, the story is little bit slowly. Being three hours and 12 minutes long is also annoying. If you enter the theater with expectations that it will be at the level of the first part, you are sure to be disappointed. Some of the dialogues are not well understood by BC audience. For the Telugu Nativity, some more precautions should be taken in the dialogues. For example, in the Avengers movie, in the past, the makers tried to impress the Telugu audience by using the names of Telugu movies in the dialogues. Something like that would have been done for this movie too.
Plus Points: James Cameron created a new world with reef island backdrop, animals and people there. The scenes in that backdrop are impressive. Climax action episodes are the highlight. The scenes at the end seem reminiscent of James Cameron’s Titanic. Also, Avatar 2 is filled with amazing action sequences and great emotions. The action scenes that come in order to face the strong villain are very entertaining. Overall, Avatar 2 has mind blowing visuals, great action episodes, good emotions, and a good message.
Technical: Once again James Cameron has proved that he is the master storyteller. He takes a simple story and narrates it well in a thrilling way. The screenplay is a bit slow. The camerawork, the background score, and sound design are perfect to give viewers a spectacular experience. The underwater visuals are extremely stunning. The VFX is mind-blowing. Overall James Cameron’s excellent directorial work is being appreciated by the viewers.
Analysis: Avatar 2 is driven by the drama woven around Jack’s children. Jack’s younger son Loak’s friendship with an animal called Payakara, and the emotions of the spider getting away and Kiri falling. Quaritch is shown to be alive and gives a hint for the third part.
Actors like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stefan Lang, Joel David More who played those interesting roles were amazingly impressed with their performance.
